Weight Watchers Introduces New Flexpoints

The fact that more Americans than ever are carrying around excess weight is symptomatic of the times we live in where crazy schedules, missed meals, indulged cravings and social pressures to overeat, are the norm.

Nowadays what people need to lose weight in the 'real world' is a weight-loss approach that's flexible and adaptable to the way they live. The solution is Weight Watchers new FlexPoints, a dramatically different weight-loss program that brings unthinkable flexibility to the simple structure of its proven POINTS(R) Weight-Loss System.

Here's how FlexPoints works: Everyone gets a POINTS Target, or the number of POINTS they can spend each day based on their current weight. On top of that, everyone gets 35 additional FlexPoints to spend each week any way they please. These extra FlexPoints are enough to cover all kinds of occasions and food indulgences, but more importantly the wider margin serves as a safety zone when you unexpectedly need it.

"Staying motivated to lose weight is super-tough if there's little room for error or pleasure," said Karen Miller-Kovach, M.S., R.D., Chief Scientist, at Weight Watchers International, Inc. "FlexPoints provides boundaries that ensure weight loss, while flexibility helps keep you on track despite life's ups-and-downs," she said.

There's more to losing weight on Weight Watchers FlexPoints than tracking POINTS values, however. While members learn the ins and outs of a healthy lifestyle with program materials that instill good eating and exercise habits, attending weekly Weight Watchers meetings helps people stay motivated and develop a positive attitude toward weight loss in the real world.

Weight Watchers FlexPoints is designed to be as practical as it is flexible. To help members get a grip on portion control Weight Watchers now provides the QuikPic booklet, a visual tool that shows what a food portion looks like by comparing it in size to familiar objects such as a tennis ball, CD, light bulb, pen, and audio cassette. Another innovative tool is the Weight Watchers PointsPie(TM), with simple graphics that show three ways to get the recommended mix of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Exercise promotes good health, and being active is essential for keeping weight off. Weight Watchers FlexPoints now offers new workout guides to trim the abdomen, arms and legs. These workouts compliment the 5-Step POINTS Activity System, which includes an option to swap Activity POINTS for additional Food POINTS.
