United Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines Sign Commercial Agreement in Warsaw
LOT Polish Airlines' Member of the Management Board, Piotr Dubno and United Airlines' Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Alliances, Graham Atkinson today signed a commercial co-operation agreement between the two carriers at an official ceremony in Warsaw, Poland.
Under the new agreement, LOT will code share beyond its U.S. gateways of Chicago, New York, and Newark on United flights to nearly 30 cities including Boston, Denver, Washington Dulles, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The code share becomes effective on 26 October 2003, the day LOT becomes an official member of Star Alliance.
LOT Member of the Management Board, Piotr Dubno said: "We are very happy with the agreement which we signed today. Close co-operation with United, one of the strongest airlines in the world, is of strategic significance for LOT. I am convinced that by working together we will be able to offer our passengers an attractive range of services which is more in line with their expectations. One improvement will be a significant increase in the options for flying from Warsaw and Krakow to approximately 30 U.S. cities."
Graham Atkinson, Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Alliances at United Airlines said: "This agreement underpins our relationship with LOT and is an important part of the airline becoming a member of Star Alliance next month. This offers customers in both the U.S. and Poland a more comprehensive service as well as convenient connections. United is excited to strengthen its presence in this important European market."
The present network of LOT Polish Airlines scheduled flights covers 46 cities in Europe and beyond, plus 12 within Poland. The LOT fleet is one of the world's youngest and comprises 51 aircraft. Over the last two years LOT has bought 18 new aircraft - Boeing 737s, Embraers 145 and ATRs 42-500 and placed an order for ten 70-seater Embraer 170 aircraft.
